Barking Dog Studio
Our little shop on the corner first opened in Sooke BC March 17, 2014. We represent the works of over 75+ Artists and are the proud retailers of FAT Paint, a chalk style paint. We are the north end of Heritage Row, a small street-side mall (8 unique stores) right in the heart of Sooke.
Physical address is 2054 Otter Point Rd.
Re-Loving or Re-Purpose! We can re-finish your old but favorite piece of furniture, & if some repairs are needed – no problem – we’ll repair it first. Bring the piece in, or a photo, & we’ll talk about the solution.
Meet the new voices behind Barking Dog Studio. French bulldogs Princess Lei and Yoda. Our founding “Fur-thers” Molly and Gracie have now retired into the lap of luxury. Second in command are the new owners, Ray and Bernadette Kube. When adventure called we moved from Vancouver to Sooke in early 2018 and are now planning to continue the vision Randy Welters and Debi McKay began almost 5 years ago. Ray has a background in Logistics while Bernadette has 20+ years in painting and decorating
Roseanna is putting the finishing touches on a rather large crab wall hanging that Randy made for her .
Of course all the finishing is done with FAT Paint (made in New Westminster).
Randy, our custom builder, will still have sawdust clinging to him as he continues to create for our clients custom furniture. Want a table? He can do that! Want a Table lamp? You already know thw answer! Come in and see his amazingly creative lamps in action.
“Reflecting Sooke’s Artistic Imagination”
At any one time we display around 60 – 95 local artists as well as our own works. Most of our artists are from the South Vancouver Island area, with a few from the mainland of British Columbia. We are proud to be the retail outlet for our local artists & being focused on such immense talent & imagination.
Barking Dog Studio
was awarded the 2015 Business Excellence Award by
The Sooke Region Chamber of Commerce
for outstanding business and service.
Where our Name Came From – The Dogs!
Dachshunds are talkative, energetic & noisey – everyone should know this. Molly & Gracie fit this to a T; hence our name. Now, we know there can be confusion whether we are a dog store, & we do make our own dog necklaces (okay collars), & we have locally made leashes & dog jewellery, but having a mother (Molly) & daughter (Gracie) team just seemed to dictate the name. The girls are in the store much of the time, but sometimes their energy levels get them a time-out to home.
Sooke Fine Arts Show
Each year our arts community & volunteers puts on an incredible art show, The Sooke Fine Art Show, & every year this juried show brings tremendous fine art focus on our town. It is held each summer on the last week of July ending on BC Day, which the first Monday in August.
